And science has the stigma of being overly complicated, unrelatable or boring. Until now.

What to Expect:
As your host, Shane kicks the evening off with some of his best material on brainy topics, before introducing special guest speakers and performers. Guests range from Ivy League professors presenting groundbreaking academic research to local stand-up comedians delivering their most cerebral material.

At the end of the night, Shane brings all the guests back onstage and opens the floor for a Q&A and interactive discussion with the audience.

About the host and origins of Stand Up Science:
Shane Mauss leads two lives.
In one life, he tours full-time as a stand-up comedian. Shane has brought his unique blend of absurdist humor, thoughtful insights and storytelling to cities all over the world, as well as TV spots on Conan, Kimmel, Comedy Central, Showtime, BBC, Epix and more.

Joseph P. Redden
Joseph P. Redden is a Professor of Marketing at the Carlson School of Management at the U of M. He is currently focused on how to help consumers extract more enjoyment without changing the product, how to reduce consumer boredom, and how to encourage (and enjoy) healthier eating. His original work in this area, "Reducing Satiation: The Role of Categorization Level," won the American Marketing Association's 2007 John A. Howard Doctoral Dissertation Award and the 2008 Robert Ferber Award based on a publication in the Journal of Consumer Research. He was also named to Poets & Quants list of the Top 40 Undergraduate Professors in 2017.

Sarah Heilbronner
Sarah Heilbronner is an Assistant Professor and a Neuromodulation Research Scholar in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota. She studies the wiring diagram of the brain, how it is altered in mental illness, and how to reshape it to improve our lives.

Khadijah Cooper
Khadijah grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis as an only child. Working as a Sexuality Educator with teens, her confidence in public speaking coupled with her quick wit gave her all the fuel she needed to burst on to the comedy scene in February 2018; making her name known. In March 2019 Khadijah was in the top 5 for the Best comedian for the City Pages Best of the Twin Cities. Her point of view in her stand up as a mother, a Sexuality Educator, and someone that has the confidence and comfort in her skin makes her irresistible to laugh with and relate to.
