A Two-Part Psychedelic Comedy Special
"The first comedy special that could conceivably be performed at the Las Vegas Sphere."
Part stand-up, part immersive art experience, part mind-expanding field trip — TRIPS is a vicarious trip for the uninitiated and an impressive representation for the veteran explorer.
Shane collaborated with over 20 psychedelic-inspired artists whose work was mixed in real-time by veteran concert VJ Michael Strauss.
The first special ever approved to film inside the visionary art mecca Meow Wolf — shot entirely within a 360º projection / LED-wall immersive space.
About
Shane Mauss is an award-winning comedian (Conan, Kimmel, Comedy Central, Amazon Prime) with a fondness for interviewing scientists about the oddities of human behavior and how the mind works. Veering off a successful traditional stand-up path, he became passionate about turning what he was learning into solo shows that blend science-inspired philosophy with comedy.
He's been a full-time comedian for over 20 years, done a zillion podcasts (Pete Holmes, WTF, Joe Rogan, Theo Von, Bert Kreischer, Duncan Trussell, Andrew Santino), and can eagerly adapt to any show. Past and current show themes include animal mating behavior, mental health, mythology, consciousness, cognitive errors, biology, and AI.
Shane has been the comedian or moderator on 100+ science panels and has traveled to universities around the world to interview nearly 500 academics. His biggest intellectual interests are human decision-making, meaning-making, and the mismatches of 200,000-year-old hunter-gatherer brains born into a technology-driven, rapidly changing modern world.
His psychedelic adventures inspired Comedy Central's viral animated series Tales From The Trip and the Amazon Prime documentary Psychonautics: A Comic's Exploration of Psychedelics. With 30 years of experience and a documentary to his name, Shane somehow mixes outrageous stories with grounded perspectives — always curious and entertaining while remaining sensible, finding the balance between sterile science and the woo.
After over a decade of flying 150,000 miles per year to comedy clubs, Shane started producing his own shows and driving city to city. A few years ago he switched to a camper van — and has been having a lot more adventures ever since.
